Stronger culture and better business results with Howspace

A scattered setup and growing pains in a distributed organization

HomeMaid, one of Sweden’s leading cleaning service providers, operates across the country with a highly distributed team.

Before Howspace, HomeMaid’s way of working reflected the reality of many growing, distributed service businesses. Communication and training were handled through local WhatsApp chats and Facebook groups, which were useful in pockets but impossible to scale. Leaders had no clear view of what was happening across teams. Information got lost, updates were inconsistent, and aligning people around shared practices was hard.

Training followed a similar pattern: short, one-size-fits-all induction sessions that didn’t meet everyone’s needs. With a workforce speaking over 60 languages and coming from diverse backgrounds, this approach left many without the support they needed to succeed.

At the same time, most service assistants worked alone and rarely visited the office. Without a shared space to connect, many felt isolated. And without connection, there can be no real culture, just people working in parallel.

“Learning should be part of what it means to work at HomeMaid, not something that ends after your first week. We want learning to be part of the culture. And just as important is communication. With people spread across offices and out in the field, the need for a shared communication tool is even greater than the need for training,” explains Lena Nordin, HR Manager at HomeMaid.

Howspace brought learning, communication, and people into one place

Howspace gave HomeMaid what it had been missing: a single space where people could learn, share, and stay connected. Simple to use and easy to adopt, the platform quickly became part of the daily routine.

“That’s where Howspace really delivers, it’s simple. The best tools often become too complicated and end up not being used. However, Howspace is easy for everyone, not just managers. It works for all 900 of us, and most importantly, it makes it easy for everyone to contribute.” Lena shares.

Instead of juggling tools or relying on word of mouth, everyone now turns to Howspace. From checking updates to revisiting training or sharing a proud moment from the field, everything lives in one place. The platform feels familiar, even for those less comfortable with digital tools.  According to Susanne Moffat, Product Manager at HomeMaid, it’s like scrolling through social media, but with a real purpose.

“We like to say that Howspace is our Facebook or Instagram. It’s where our people are, and feels just as easy to use. At first, some were hesitant even to click a button. But once they tried it, they realized it’s simple. It’s not scary at all, and more and more of our employees are jumping in and sharing.” Susanne explains.

Employees can easily find answers to everyday questions, like following cleaning standards or understanding key policies. The built-in AI translation feature makes content accessible in over 60 languages, helping everyone engage and contribute in their own voice.

For leaders like Lena and Susanne, Howspace offers a real-time view across the business. They can share news, track engagement, and spot where support is needed. Just as importantly, they can witness the everyday moments that shape culture, whether it’s positive feedback from a customer or a colleague proud of a job well done.

Stronger culture with real business results

Since adopting Howspace across the company, HomeMaid has seen clear, measurable change. People are more connected, learning is continuous, and the business is stronger because of it. According to Lena, the platform has helped turn their “better together” vision into an everyday reality.

“Our vision is ‘better together’, and it’s not just words on a wall. It came from workshops with our people and lives through the small everyday moments we see in Howspace. That’s what culture really is. Not posters or meetings, but the hugs, the photos, the shared pride in what we do.” Lena explains.

Employees now actively share their work, celebrate wins, and support one another. This kind of open, peer-driven communication has built a sense of community across roles and regions. For many, Howspace has become where they feel seen, heard, and part of something bigger, even when working alone.

“We don’t have anyone managing internal communication. Instead, we rely on content from the ground up, and it works. Almost everything in Howspace is user-generated, which fits our culture. People don’t want polished messages. They want to be part of the conversation.” Lena shares.

This culture shift has delivered tangible business outcomes. Staff turnover has dropped from 70 percent to under 40 percent. NPS (Net Promoter Score) has risen from -5 to 8 and continues to improve. Quality and customer satisfaction have grown, and so have key financial metrics.

The platform also plays a key role in HomeMaid’s mission to support integration. Many team members felt this was their first job in Sweden. Howspace helps them understand what to do and how and why things are done, making it easier to feel confident and included from day one. Leaders now have a clear view across the company. They can spot who needs support, welcome new hires, and celebrate great work — all in one place.

For HomeMaid, Howspace has become more than just a tool. It’s the foundation for stronger communication, consistent learning, and a culture where everyone feels connected, no matter where they work. By bringing people together, HomeMaid isn’t just improving performance. They’re building a workplace where everyone can grow, belong, and thrive.

“The support we’ve received has been truly exceptional. We work with many different vendors, but the engagement and willingness to help from the Howspace team stand out. In the long run, support makes all the difference.” Lena concludes.
