How HomeMaid cut staff turnover in half by building a digital home for 900 employees
The national service provider transformed its culture and business by connecting a distributed workforce that speaks over 60 languages, improving its eNPS score from -5 to +8.
Challenge
HomeMaid, one of Sweden’s leading service providers, faced a massive culture and communication challenge. Their 900 service assistants worked alone, were spread across the country, and spoke over 60 different languages.
Solution
HomeMaid introduced Howspace as a digital home for communication, learning, and culture. The goal was to solve the job of creating a stronger sense of belonging and cultural alignment. The platform’s simplicity and AI-powered features were key.
- “Automated inclusion”: The built-in AI translation feature was a game-changer, making content accessible in over 60 languages and giving every employee a voice.
- A digital “social” space: The platform became their “company Instagram,” a place for user-generated content where employees could share successes and feel seen. “People don’t want polished messages. They want to be part of the conversation,” says Lena.
- Simplicity for a non-desk workforce: “The best tools often become too complicated… However, Howspace is easy for everyone… It works for all 900 of us,” Lena emphasizes.
Results
By bringing everyone into one conversation, HomeMaid achieved a cultural and business turnaround.
One place for learning, communication, and people
HomeMaid, one of Sweden’s leading cleaning service providers, operates across the country with a highly distributed team.
Howspace gave HomeMaid what it had been missing: a single space where people could learn, share, and stay connected. Simple to use and easy to adopt, the platform quickly became part of the daily routine.
Instead of juggling tools or relying on word of mouth, everyone now turns to Howspace. From checking updates to revisiting training or sharing a proud moment from the field, everything lives in one place. The platform feels familiar, even for those less comfortable with digital tools. According to Susanne Moffat, Product Manager at HomeMaid, it’s like scrolling through social media, but with a real purpose.
“We like to say that Howspace is our Facebook or Instagram. It’s where our people are, and feels just as easy to use. At first, some were hesitant even to click a button. But once they tried it, they realized it’s simple. It’s not scary at all, and more and more of our employees are jumping in and sharing,” Susanne explains.
Employees can easily find answers to everyday questions, like following cleaning standards or understanding key policies. The built-in AI translation feature makes content accessible in over 60 languages, helping everyone engage and contribute in their own voice.
Real-time visibility for leaders
For leaders like Lena and Susanne, Howspace offers a real-time view across the entire business. They can share news, track engagement, and spot where support is needed. Just as importantly, they can witness the everyday moments that shape culture — whether it’s positive feedback from a customer or a colleague proud of a job well done. Leaders can welcome new hires, celebrate great work, and identify who needs support, all in one place.
“That’s where Howspace really delivers, it’s simple. The best tools often become too complicated and end up not being used. However, Howspace is easy for everyone, not just managers. It works for all 900 of us, and most importantly, it makes it easy for everyone to contribute.”
Building culture from the ground up
Employees now actively share their work, celebrate wins, and support one another. This kind of open, peer-driven communication has built a sense of community across roles and regions. For many, Howspace has become where they feel seen, heard, and part of something bigger, even when working alone.
“We don’t have anyone managing internal communication. Instead, we rely on content from the ground up, and it works. Almost everything in Howspace is user-generated, which fits our culture. People don’t want polished messages. They want to be part of the conversation,” Lena shares.
“Our vision is ‘better together’, and it’s not just words on a wall. It came from workshops with our people and lives through the small everyday moments we see in Howspace.”
Supporting integration from day one
Howspace also plays a key role in HomeMaid’s mission to support integration. Many team members were experiencing their first job in Sweden when they joined. Howspace helps them understand what to do, and how and why things are done, making it easier to feel confident and included from day one.
A partnership built on exceptional support
For HomeMaid, Howspace has become more than just a tool. It is the foundation for stronger communication, consistent learning, and a culture where everyone feels connected, no matter where they work.
“The support we’ve received has been truly exceptional. We work with many different vendors, but the engagement and willingness to help from the Howspace team stand out. In the long run, support makes all the difference,” Lena concludes.
